Red giants and brown dwarfs – an unusual friendship

Mysterious long-timescale variations in the brightness of red giant stars have puzzled astronomers for a long time. The authors of today’s paper provide evidence that these variations are caused by a tiny brown dwarf orbiting the giant star.
