Opening the Envelope on Protostars

Opening the Envelope on Protostars

by Ashley Piccone | Aug 5, 2020 | Daily Paper Summaries

Protostars aren’t quite stars yet, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t important in stellar evolution. Today’s paper looks at the magnetic field across the different regions in a protostar.

Meet the AAS Keynote Speakers: Prof. Paola Caselli

by Mia de los Reyes | May 27, 2020 | Career Navigation, Current Events, Personal Experiences

Where did we come from? Where did we go? Astrochemistry can help answer the first question, at least… Find out more at Prof. Paola Caselli’s talk at #AAS236!

Polarime-trying to Map Magnetic Fields in the Orion Nebula

Polarime-trying to Map Magnetic Fields in the Orion Nebula

by Ashley Piccone | Feb 8, 2020 | Daily Paper Summaries

Molecular clouds act as stellar nurseries, creating environments for stars to form. However, according to polarimetry measurements of OMC-1’s magnetic field, there’s an explosion going on that would disrupt any lullaby.

Missing the Fireworks in Massive Dusty Galaxies

Missing the Fireworks in Massive Dusty Galaxies

by John Weaver | Jan 1, 2020 | Daily Paper Summaries

Ever tried to see fireworks through the smoke? New results suggest we might be missing some of the action.

When Do Stars Form? Simulating Dynamic Star Formation Efficiencies in Giant Molecular Clouds

When Do Stars Form? Simulating Dynamic Star Formation Efficiencies in Giant Molecular Clouds

by Michael Foley | Nov 8, 2019 | Daily Paper Summaries

Observations of Giant Molecular Clouds (GMCs) yield large scatters in star formation efficiencies. Simulations in this work show that much of this scatter may stem from the fact we observe GMCs at different evolutionary stages driven by stellar feedback.
